$10 Meal - Basil Minced Beef Rice

I love Thai food. There is something in the perfect concoction of sweet / saltiness / sourness and spiciness in the dishes which appeals to my taste buds. I like that it also uses various herbs and spices too. One of my favourite quick whip one dish meal is Basil Minced Beef Rice.

The ingredients:

1) 1 packet of 400gm of minced beef ($1.39 / 100gm)

- $5.56

2) 1 packet of Basil

- $1.50

3) Eggs (1 for one serving)
- $0.90

4) Chili
- $1 per packet

Total: $8.96

Preparation:

1) Marinate minced beef with a dash of pepper, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce and cornflour. (I left out soy sauce because we will be using fish sauce during the actual cooking so that can be quite salty)

2) Slice up the chili (I usually use at least 2 - 3) and put aside

To cook:

1) Heat up oil in wok

2) Add 1-2 tablespoons of garlic, chili slices and basil leaves (the amount to use varies from individual as the taste can be quite strong. I used about 1/3 of the packet). Stir fry on medium fire

3) Add minced beef to it. Stir fry for about 2-3 mins

4) Add on 2 table spoons of Fish Sauce, 1 flat teaspoon of sugar (and if you prefer a saltier taste, some soy sauce to taste)

5) Stir fry on low heat for another 1-2 mins

6) Prepare your sunny side ups

7) Dish up rice, serve basil minced beef over rice and top with sunny side up on the side
Note: Beef can be easily replaced with minced chicken / pork too. :)
